When you join Edinburgh Gay Men’s Chorus you are doing more than just becoming part of a choral group – you are becoming part of a family. EGMC strives to provide a welcoming atmosphere in which anyone will find opportunities for musical excellence, camaraderie, support and lifelong friends.
If you interested in singing with us, we’d love to hear from you! We hold an open evening every year, but drop us a note and come along - you will be welcome at any time of the year! See our events listing for details of the next one.
How do I join EGMC?
If you are interested in becoming a singing member, we encourage you to attend an open evening, to meet some of our members, see and hear the Chorus, and discover if this is something for you. Please contact us via email if you wish to attend an open evening.
Do I need to be gay to join?
No. We welcome, as members, any adults (aged 18 or older) who support our mission and are willing to join a chorus that proudly and openly identifies with the gay community. Because we are a men’s chorus anyone who identifies as male can sing with us..
Do I need to audition?
No. The Music Director may conduct “vocal interviews” with new singers to determine placement into the appropriate section. This is not a high-pressure audition, and no prepared selection is required.
When do you rehearse?
Our regular rehearsals are every Tuesday night, 7:15 to 9:30pm-ish in the Stockbridge area of Edinburgh, with a break in July/August and December.
Additional rehearsals, especailly in the few weeks leading up to our concerts or at other designated times might be required. These are announced a few weeks in advance. Performing members are expected to spend time practicing the concert music outside of regular rehearsals (we provide mp3 recordings to assist).
How much does it cost me?
Membership is currently £120 per year, paid by monthly direct debit of £10. This covers our operating expenses such as hire of rehearsal space, fees and other regular costs. We are able to waive this for members who require assistance.
Can I be a non singing member?
Of course! We need volunteers to help with our concert events and you’re welcome to join us as a non-singing member. If you can help fundraise, stage manage, volunteer as an usher at concerts or sell tickets, contact us via email or use the form below and let us know your availability.
Any further questions please contact us via email. We look forward to hearing from you!
